23 September 05 - Flying the Flag for Luton
Luton First, a partnership of local organisations including University of Luton, Vauxhall Motors, Luton Borough Council, London-Luton Airport, Whitbread, the Arndale Shopping Centre, Bedfordshire Newspapers and SELEX Sensors and Airborne Systems, has teamed up with Luton Town Football Club (LTFC) to fly the flag for Luton.
The group has chosen this Friday's televised home game against Sheffield Wednesday as an ideal opportunity to reveal a massive flag with the message 'We Love Luton'. The flag will be passed over the heads of supporters in the Kenilworth Road stand just before the match kicks off at 7.45pm.
“The ‘We Love Luton’ flag is the latest in a series of initiatives being developed by the group to build pride in the town and to promote Luton to the rest of the world as a great place to live, work, learn and have fun,” explained Luton First spokesman Seb Hearmon.
Another of the initiatives, which took place earlier this year, was the publication of a collection of short stories inspired by Luton - under the title 'Junction 10'. Two of the authors featured in the book, Andrew Kingston and John Bradshaw, are LTFC season ticket holders and will be at the match on Friday to talk about the book project and why they were keen to help promote the town.
The book costs just £6.99 and is available from Ottakars in the town centre or from www.amazon.co.uk. All proceeds will go to Keech Cottage hospice.
