Lennon’s lyrics are voted the ‘Greatest Words’ of all time. 
All You Need is Love tops national internet poll.


The title lyrics from a ‘Beatles’ hit record of the sixties, ‘All You Need Is Love’, have been voted the ‘Greatest Words’ of all time in a nationwide internet poll organised by the Bedfordshire town of Luton.

It was on a short list of twenty ‘Greatest Words’ created at the website www.greatestwords.co.uk at the beginning of February after more than 1,500 people had logged-on during December and January to nominate their favourite ‘words’. Since then over 2,000 people have voted on the top twenty pushing ‘All You Need is Love’ into the number one slot with 16% approval from 336 website ‘clicks’.

Second position went to ‘Unto Thine Own Self Be True’ with ‘All Journeys Begin With A First Step’ in third position. Churchill’s famous wartime words ‘Never in the field of human conflict has so much been owed by so many to so few’, were in the fourth spot. ‘Do Unto Others as you would have them do unto you’ was fifth. The first five captured 57% of the vote. 

Now the ‘Greatest Words’ are to be inscribed in a place of honour on the wall of the main passenger arrivals walkway at London Luton Airport. 

Paul Kehoe, managing director of London Luton Airport said today; “We are delighted to be representing the town of Luton by hosting the Greatest Words Ever Spoken. The winning quotation is a great choice as the words will send out an immediate, positive and life affirming message to all visitors arriving in the UK at London Luton Airport.”

Tony Edwards, PR for Luton First, the town’s promotional consortium, said; “It was interesting to see that the title of a 1960’s song should be in the forefront of public imagination more than forty years on. But it is also encouraging that love should be the primary message.”
